I woke up to some very sad texts early this morning. I got the news that Warrel Dane passed away. Not only did I get the chance to produce a record for him, we became friends. I first heard his voice on April 16th, 1988 when Sanctuary opened for Megadeth on the “So Far So Good So What” tour. I immediately went to the record store the next day and bought Sanctuary “Refuge Denied” and was instantly hooked on the band! I wore that cassette out! I followed him throughout his career all the way to today. He really came into his own during the Nevermore years and continued to raise the bar. He had and always will have one of the most distinct, original, and unique voices in metal and is bar none one of the best metal singers ever and is in my top 10! His lyrical content was second to none and completely unique! He was one of a kind and I still can’t believe that he is no longer with us! He was kind and caring and never wanted to disappoint anyone and stayed out of conflict. He had a very unique mind and I am fucking HONORED to have worked with this man!!!! It's guys like him that keep me going in the hard and crazy world of rock and roll. He had some demons but never gave up! Rest in peace Warrel!!!! We will all miss you terribly as a person and voice!
